On Wednesday, 4 June, the Rīga Stradiņš University (RSU) Rector Prof. Aigars Pētersons awarded diplomas to the newly elected professors and associate professors at RSU. 

‘Professors and associate professors ensure high quality of studies and research, greater opportunities for international collaboration, lead projects, attract funding and drive innovation, and mentor the next generation of academics.

As people age, their cognitive abilities – such as memory and attention – change. Sometimes these changes can be early signs of more serious cognitive impairments that may lead to pathological conditions such as Alzheimer’s disease. Early detection of cognitive impairments is particularly important, as it allows for timely intervention and support for groups at risk.

Max and Emile's chance encounter

When Max Zwartjes and Emile Crouzen began their medical studies at Rīga Stradiņš University (RSU), neither of them expected that years later they would run into each other by chance in a hospital cafeteria – on the other side of the world. Now both working as doctors in Wellington, New Zealand, the two Dutch alumni were surprised to reconnect in such an unlikely setting.

On 11 June, for the ninth consecutive year, the best student athletes, their coaches, and teams were celebrated at Rīga Stradiņš University (RSU). A total of 168 members of the RSU sports community were recognised, highlighting the continued growth and strength of the RSU sports family. Compared to last year, the number of athletes who achieved sporting success has doubled – as has the number of medals won.

Anthropology – A Way of Thinking. A Reflection on the Erasmus+ Trip to Brno

A few months ago, we at Rīga Stradiņš University received a spontaneous invitation to join as part of the Erasmus+ exchange programme with an anthropological focus. The course Current Debates in Social Anthropology was running for the second year, in collaboration with three universities – the University of Padua in Italy, Masaryk University in the Czech Republic, and Rīga Stradiņš University in Latvia.
