The right to own a property is one of the most important fundamental human rights, but property rights may be restricted in the interests of society as a whole or of an individual. A right of way easement (the right to use or access another person’s property) is one of the restrictions on property rights, where the rights of one property owner are restricted for the benefit of another owner or property owned by another person.
For the third year, the Rīga Stradiņš University (RSU) ophthalmology interest group is organising an awareness-raising event for diabetes that will take place on 24 and 25 November at 11.00-16.00 at the Riga Plaza shopping centre. Visitors will have the opportunity to find out their eye pressure, visual acuity, blood pressure, and blood sugar levels free of charge, as well as assess their risk of stroke based on individual biometric factors.
Recurrent tonsillitis is a repeated (recurring) bacterial inflammation of the palatine tonsils. It decreases the quality of life, leads to financial losses due to the inability to work and medical expenses, and can be severe, spreading deeper and lead to complications like peritonsillar abscess (PTA).
Flare-ups of recurrent tonsillitis are treated with antibacterial therapy, but if the flare-ups recur three or more times each year, doctors usually recommend surgery to remove the tonsils.
To promote the development of innovation-driven higher education, last week, lecturers from Rīga Stradiņš University (RSU) had the opportunity to learn from the best practices of the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), Harvard University, and the University at Buffalo at the international conference Light Up Latvia.
The Latvian Centre for Disease Prevention and Control has declared an influenza epidemic in Latvia as of 12 January. The Centre stresses that vaccination is the most effective way to protect against a serious case of the flu as well as Covid-19 and encourages people who are at high risk of health problems to take advantage of the vaccination provided by the state.
On 15 November 2023, the Cabinet of Ministers decided to present Certificates of Appreciation to several professionals working in the cultural and public sector and public administration employees. Among them were four lecturers from Rīga Stradiņš University (RSU).
In recognition of her outstanding and long-standing contribution to the development of internal medicine, this year the award named after doctor, professor, and researcher Kristaps Rudzītis was awarded to Prof. Ludmila Vīksna, Head of the Department of Infectology at Rīga Stradiņš University (RSU). Prof. Vīksna received the highest award in Latvia in the specialty of internal medicine at a celebratory event in the presence of her colleagues in the RSU Great Hall on 15 November.
Cardiometabolic diseases, which include cardiovascular diseases and metabolic disorders such as obesity and diabetes, remain the leading cause of death worldwide.
In addition to various previously identified biomarkers, recent studies indicate a potential link between elevated trimethylamine N-oxide (TMAO) levels and the risk of cardiometabolic disease.
