RSU Opens Auditorium Named After Patron Boris Teterev by Congratulating New Scholarship Recipients

On Wednesday, 6 October, the auditorium named after Boris Teterev – a Rīga Stradiņš University (RSU) alumnus, Honorary Doctor and long-term supporter – was opened with ceremony congratulating the new RSU students who have received the Boris and Ināra Teterev Foudation’s Scholarship in Medicine this year. The auditorium is located in the RSU Medical Education Technology Centre (METC), a place where students learn and researchers work on a daily basis and where international conferences are held both in healthcare and social sciences.

31st International Biometric Conference Will be Held in Riga

On 10–15 July 2022, Riga will host the 31st International Biometric Conference (IBC2022) organised by The International Biometric Society together with Rīga Stradiņš University (RSU). The conference is open to any researcher interested in participating.

The aim of the conference is to promote the development and application of statistical and mathematical theory methods in biosciences, including agriculture, biomedicine, public health, ecology, environmental science, forestry and related disciplines.

A Study on the Role of Emotions in Sustaining and Transmitting the Song and Dance Celebration

The Song and Dance Celebration is a unique part of Latvian culture. Around 87% of the Latvian population have participated in this national celebration at some point in their lives. The emotionally saturated event has received a lot of attention from researchers over the years, but this has usually been more focused on various preconditions for passing this tradition on through the generations.

For many years, the international fashion chain Lindex has been involved in the Pink Ribbon campaign, where the company's customers and employees have the opportunity to support breast cancer research. Lindex Latvia's partner in breast cancer research is the Rīga Stradiņš University (RSU) Institute of Oncology, which has more than 20 years of experience in genetically inherited breast cancer research. 

On 19 October, at 15:00, RSU students, residents, academic staff and practising physicians are invited to the Prof. Charles H. Kellner's lecture 'Electroconvulsive Therapy: Myths and Clinical Realities in the 21st Century'. The 45-minute lecture will take place online, via Zoom. The professor is one of the leading US experts in electroconvulsive therapy. The lecture will address the widely discussed and prejudiced topic of the effectiveness of electroconvulsive therapy in the treatment of mental disorders.

Ieva Puzo

Social or cultural anthropologist Ieva Puzo has been a part of Rīga Stradiņš University (RSU) since 2016. She is lecturer and senior research at the RSU Faculty of Communication. Her interests are related to science and technology studies, the anthropology of work and research on highly qualified staff mobility.

'Today, our biggest problem is that we see human value only at work’, Ieva Puzo said at an interview for the LR1 (national radio broadcasting network) programme Monopols.
