The semester has just begun, so this is the perfect time to meet other students (virtually) - not only your course mates or other students you may have met in the halls, but also new students just starting their studies at RSU.
Speed Friending offers the opportunity to meet your peers in an informal setting and encourages friendships between international and local students. The event will be organised as a series of Q&A sessions where everyone can discuss several topics in groups and in pairs.
Arturs Jirgensons is a nursing student at Rīga Stradiņš University (RSU). He plans to enrol in the Faculty of Medicine and wants to become a doctor. Since June last year, he has been working as a hospital orderly in the Department of Resuscitation and Intensive Care at Pauls Stradiņš Clinical University Hospital, where his main responsibilities include feeding, washing and repositioning patients to avoid bedsores.
The Rīga Stradiņš University (RSU) Alumni Association is organising a T-shirt design contest in cooperation with the RSU Communications Department. All RSU students, employees and graduates are invited to participate. The theme of the competition is "RSU - my alma mater" and the winning design will be printed and sold as an exclusive, limited edition item in the RSU gift shop.
This January marks the 30th anniversary of the Barricades that took place in 1991, and 20 January is the Commemoration Day of the Defenders of the Barricades. Both students and lecturers from Rīga Stradiņš University (RSU) took part in the nation-wide demonstrations at the time.
Mohamed Naleef Ahamed Mazhar is from Sri Lanka, but has previously lived in Dubai in the United Arab Emirates (UAE), for several years because of his father's job. He is currently studying medicine in his 4th year. Naleef was recently elected the President of the Rīga Stradiņš University (RSU) International Student Association (ISA). This will be his second year on the ISA Board having served as Liaison Officer in the unpredictably challenging year that was 2020.
18 February 2021 will mark one year since the Cabinet of Ministers approved the conceptual report “On the Change of the Internal Governance Model of Higher Education Institutions”. The Ministry of Education and Science has announced that the report is bringing in a new era in higher education in Latvia. It is hoped that this will place Latvian universities among the world's top 500 universities in the coming years.
‘My duty is to help patients today,’ says Marija Luīze Kalniņa, a 6th-year student at the Rīga Stradiņš University (RSU) Faculty of Medicine. The young woman is one of many prospective doctors currently working in the nation’s hospitals helping to treat patients, including COVID-19 patients. The student has been working at the hospital already from the beginning of last summer. We asked Marija Luīze about her impressions of the clinic then compared to what it is like today.
