In his interview with the daily newspaper Diena, rector of Rīga Stradiņš University (RSU) Professor Aigars Pētersons reveals the university’s intention to increase the proportion of visiting lecturers by 15% in the next five years. The RSU rector mentions another ambitious goal – to be among the top 500 universities in QS World University Rankings.
On Tuesday, 27 November the State Fire and Rescue Service of Latvia (VUGD) and Rīga Stradiņš University, in cooperation with the CBSS Permanent Secretariat, Swedish Institute and Swedish Civil Contingencies Agency is organising an international conference "Societal Security in the Baltic Sea Region: Challenges and Solutions".
At the beginning of June, the Association for the Advancement of Baltic Studies (AABS) organised a conference that was held at Stanford University (California, USA). It marked two important events: 50 years since the foundation of the AABS and the 100th anniversary of the Baltic Republics – Estonia, Latvia and Lithuania. Rīga Stradiņš University (RSU) teaching staff and a PhD student of the programme Communication Culture and Multimedia also took part in the conference.
Vita Skuja, Lecturer at the Department of Internal Diseases at Riga Stradiņš University (RSU) has been elected as one of nine young European gastroenterologists who will represent the interests of junior physicians in the Young Talent Group of the United European Gastroenterology for two years (from 1 January 2019 to 31 December 2020).
On 12th and 13th September Swedish Professor Robert Gustav Hahn will hold guest lectures at Rīga Stradiņš University. He is one of the leading anaesthesiologists-reanimatologists worldwide in the field of Infusion therapy (Fluid management).

The Faculty of Law at Riga Stradiņš University (RSU) was founded in 2009 and is the newest faculty at the university. Currently, there are approximately 1,000 students and 26 doctoral students studying in the Faculty of Law, however it all started with just 40 students.
The teaching staff at the Faculty of Law are highly qualified specialists in the field of law, representing various fields of law. Guest lecturers from other Latvian and foreign universities are also involved in the study process.
On 28th September from 17:00 to 22:00 Rīga Stradiņš University will be holding Researchers' Night with this year's theme – Science for us. At RSU a number of activities will be held in three different university buildings: the Institute of Anatomy and Anthropology (9 Kronvalda bulv.), Medical Education Technology Centre (26a Anniņmuižas bulv.) and 30 Kristapa iela.
European Researchers’ Night will be held in Latvia for the 13th year.

On 5 July representatives from Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam (VU Amsterdam) visited Rīga Stradiņš University (RSU) to discuss opportunities for collaboration. This visit coincided with VU Amsterdam Symphony Orchestra’s Latvian concert tour, a cultural gift by the Kingdom of the Netherlands in celebration of Latvia’s Centenary.
During the visit to RSU, various forms of collaboration were explored, including student mobilities, guest-lecturing, university staff exchanges, summer schools, international weeks and others.
On 5 July at 15:00 in an open session of Rīga Stradiņš University (RSU) Medical Promotion Council to be held in the Hippocrates Lecture Theatre (16 Dzirciema iela, Rīga) Dins Šmits will defend his doctoral thesis “Treatment adherence of asthma patients in Latvia and factors related to adherence”.
