The inauguration ceremony for recipients of RSU Honorary Doctorate Degrees Professor Matthew Goldsmith (USA) and Professor Eugene Minevich (USA) will be held on 1 April 2019 at 17:30.
From 30 May to 2 June the European Paediatric Ophthalmological Society (EPOS) conference will take place at the Latvian National Library in Rīga. The conference has been organised with the support of RSU. This is the first time the conference takes place in the Baltic States.
On 7 March Rīga Stradiņš University (RSU), in cooperation with the EIT Health Network of the European Institute of Innovation and Technology, hosted an informative seminar on business creation programmes offered by the institute. Latvian healthcare students, start-ups and non-governmental institutions had the opportunity to learn about the programmes offered by EIT Health that support entrepreneurs during the incubation, validation and scale-up phases.
After obtaining her Master’s degree in medical engineering from Riga Technical University and a Doctoral degree in medical physics from the University of Latvia Marta Laņģe applied her knowledge to fostering the development of simulation technologies at Rīga Stradiņš University (RSU). Her goals at the Medical Education Technology Centre (METC) include using more powerful simulations in the study process and deepening the involvement of future physicians and healthcare professionals in research using technologies available at METC.
On 11 March representatives from Rīga Stradiņš University (RSU) participated in the inauguration event of the international project Europartner which was organised by the University of Lodz (Poland). Within the framework of the project a consortium composed of research institutions from seven countries was established with the aim to foster collaboration in research and provide doctoral students with opportunities to go on exchange trips and develop their skills.
RSU Research Week will be this year’s key scientific event at Rīga Stradiņš University (RSU) gathering more than 50 visiting professors from 20 countries. The conference programme will include 1,250 presentations – an 80% increase from last year. RSU Research Week is supported by important employers who are long-standing partners of RSU.
Neurologist Jānis Mednieks from Pauls Stradiņš Clinical University Hospital first interest was computer science. After studying for half a year he understood that this was not his real calling and went on a long hitchhiking trip with friends visiting Iran and other far away countries. His first encounter with medicine was in a psychiatric hospital in Wales where he was volunteering. This experience inspired him to study medicine and he chose neurology in his 5th year.
Initiated by Professor Iveta Ozolanta the first RSU Research Conference on medicine was held on 26 Februrary 1999 marking a significant turning point in the scientific life of Rīga Stradiņš University (RSU).
Rīga Stradiņš University (RSU) and the Red Cross Medical College that is under RSU supervision share a coordinated study process, a complementary succession of study programmes and shared use of resources. The Director of the College Ināra Upmale is certain that shared values and a strong belief in the disciplines and methods which have been prioritised in medical education strengthen the quality and serve as a precondition for training outstanding professionals.
