Choir "Rīga"

On 3 June Rīga Stradiņš University mixed choir “Riga” under the guidance of its conductors Evita Taranda and Zane Zilberte participated in the choral singing semi-finals for XXVI Latvian Nationwide Song and XI Dance Celebration, winning the opportunity to participate in the finals of the choral competition, the so-called Battle of the Choirs. RSU student folk dance group "Ačkups” was recognised as the 3rd best folk dance group in its category. 

Women's run

The traditional women’s race is an unforgettable summer event that brings together thousands of women of all ages and backgrounds. 

The sixth women’s race was held on 2 June in Lucavsala. RSU students from the Gynaecology and Obstetrics Interest Group took part in the race for the second time now, this year with a much larger team, also involving medical residents from the RSU Faculty of Continuing Education, study programme Residency in Medicine, speciality Obstetrician – Gynaecologist.

RSU ranked by QS among top 1000 universities in the world

The annual international QS World University Rankings 2019 has ranked Rīga Stradiņš University (RSU) among top 1000 universities in the world. RSU has received the highest rating in two categories: international student ratio and academic reputation. The ranking was officially released on 7 June. 

Ilze Štrumfa

This year, the Rīga Stradiņš University (RSU) Annual Award in the category Lecturer of the Year was awarded to Ilze Štrumfa, a professor of the Department of Pathology of the Faculty of Medicine, who is considered by students to be one of the most empathetic and respected lecturers at RSU. Perhaps this is because she lives according to the philosophy of Imants Ziedonis: “Don’t trample a flower, don’t tread on other people’s souls, but walk close by, go around, stay close”…Working with students is Ilze Štrumfa’s love and lifestyle. 

Kristīne Blumfelde-Rutka

This year the Rīga Stradiņš University (RSU) annual award in the category "Lecturer of the Year" in social sciences was awarded to lecturer of the Faculty of European Studies, Department of International Business and Economics Kristīne Blumfelde-Rutka, who is known for her outstanding organisational skills. She knows how to explain complicated things in simple words, finds practical everyday illustrations of the study content, brings students closer to entrepreneurs and employers and treats the study process with passion.

President of the Association of German Students Abroad, Christoph Philipp Schulze wants to discover new treatment methods and help patients

As part of our themed series of interviews “Doctor – it is a mission” we offer an interview with Christoph Philipp Schulze – president of the Association of German Students Abroad  (Deutsche Studenten im Ausland - DSiA) who is passionate about the world of medicine and has a strong desire to help others. He recognises that in the medical profession no two days are alike and that every new day brings new experiences. He is determined and strongly committed to help those needing it the most.

On 19 June, from 14.00–17.00, the RSU Medical Education Technology Centre is organising guest lectures by Monika Brodmann Maeder, MD PhD and Susanne Eichenberger, MD on the following topics in the RSU central building (16 Dzirciema iela) Auditorium No 3:

  • The art of medical education in emergency medicine;
  • The ABCDE algorithm in trauma assessment.

The guest lectures are organised by the RSU Medical Education Technology Centre and Department of Clinical Skills and Medical Technologies.

Lecturers from University of Bern to give workshop on emergency traumatology and wilderness medicine

From 19 to 21 June the Rīga Stradiņš University (RSU) Medical Education Technology Centre, in collaboration with the Faculty of Continuing Education will host a workshop given by lecturers of the Department of Emergency Medicine, Inselspital University Hospital of Bern and medical simulation instructors, Monika Brodmann Maeder, MD PhD, Susanne Nüesch, MD PhD, and Susanne Eichenberger, MD.
