RSU lecturers to become NAEMT instructors

On 18 – 21 June the Rīga Stradiņš University (RSU) Medical Education Technology Centre and the Department of Clinical Skills and Medical Technologies in cooperation with the Department of Orthopaedics hosted an international instructor training course Prehospital Trauma Life Support. It was conducted by the National Association of Emergency Medical Technicians (NAEMT). During the course 12 RSU lecturers were trained to become NAEMT instructors.

We live in a world that is always ‘switched on’, where your phone is an extension of your arm, and where leaving an email unanswered for more than an hour is almost viewed as a crime. While striving to deliver more in less time it is easy to confuse an increase in activity with an increase in output. The former can make you feel stressed and lead you to loosing motivation, inspiration and creativity – you could, however, achieve the latter from improved productivity which could eventually release you from the vicious cycle of an unfinished workload. 

Delegation from China visits RSU

On 12 June a delegation from the People’s Republic of China from the University of Nottingham Ningbo visited Rīga Stradiņš University (RSU). Professor May Tan-Mullins, Vice-Provost for Teaching and Learning, Kevin Lin, Director of the Global Engagement Office, and Professor Emilian Kavalski made up the delegation.

Opportunities for student and staff exchange programmes and cooperation in research were discussed at a meeting with Toms Baumanis, RSU Vice-Rector for Administration and Development, and Agrita Kiopa, Vice-Rector for Science.

Over 1000 students graduated from RSU in summer 2019

On Friday 21 June Rīga Stradiņš University (RSU) hosted the first of its summer graduation ceremonies. 58 young healthcare specialists, graduates from the Liepāja Branch of RSU, were the first to obtain their diplomas. Graduation ceremonies will be held in the RSU Great Hall in Riga from 25 to 28 June where 960 graduates from nine faculties will be awarded diplomas – among them 118 international students. A total of 1018 graduates will be receiving their diplomas this summer including 258 social sciences students.

RSU celebrates the summer solstice

On Wednesday 19 June Rīga Stradiņš University (RSU) hosted a traditional summer solstice event honouring those RSU employees whose name days fall on Latvian midsummer (23 and 24 June) - 25 women named Līga and 36 men named Jānis.

RSU Rector, Professor Aigars Pētersons, addressed employees praising their work over the previous academic year and encouraged them to start preparing for the weekend’s midsummer celebrations after such hard work.
