Distinguished Swedish plastic surgeon, Dr. Charles Randquist, will be giving a lecture at Rīga Stradiņš University (RSU) on 8 June at 14:45. The lecture is organised by the Swedish medical student association in Riga (SLFSUR) in cooperation with the International Student Association (RSU ISA). Dr. Randquist will talk about his 25-year experience in the field of plastic surgery, and his road in getting to where he is today.
The seminar Immunotherapy of Cancer will take place on 13 June at Rīga Stradiņš University. The seminar is part of the project 'New approach to active immunotherapy of Hepatitis C related cancer' (LZP-2018/2-0308).
The seminar will be conducted in English.
A medical art workshop took place at the Art Academy of Latvia on 21-23 May. It was lead by British medical artist Andrew Carnie.
The workshop was intended for students from the Academy and from RSU who were encouraged to focus on contemporary technology and the possibilities that it opens up, as well as to speculate on the anatomy of people in the future. During the workshop students were able to familiarise themselves with Carnie's methods, his experience working with scientists, as well as to make their own Anatomy & Beyond medical art project.
Julia Volonts, an art therapist from New York, will carry out research at Rīga Stradiņš University (RSU) from September 2019 to May 2020. The researcher received the prestigious Fulbright scholarship that she will make full use of to analyse the psychological impact caused by historical events on individuals and on Latvian society, as well as how the impact of these events are transferred from one generation to the next.
On 16 and 17 May the best 1st year medical students from the Baltic States gathered at the Institute of Anatomy and Anthropology of Rīga Stradiņš University (RSU) to participate in the XVI International Anatomy Olympiad. This year human anatomy was mixed with art – the theme of the Olympiad was Ars divina or Divine Art.
This was the 16th International Anatomy Olympiad and saw the participation of eight teams from RSU, two teams from the University of Tartu and two from the Lithuanian University of Health Sciences.
A press conference, organised by the Children’s Clinical University Hospital (CCUH) together with Rīga Stradiņš University (RSU), will take place on Tuesday 28 May at 11:00 in the Ebela Auditorium at CCUH. The leadership of CCUH and RSU will introduce their vision for a new multifunctional study centre.
The Department of Humanities at Rīga Stradiņš University (RSU) will be hosting a seminar cycle themed Death and Personal Identity. The seminars are organised by Vilius Dranseika, researcher at Vilnius University, in collaboration with the Department of Humanities, RSU.
Jaakko Nieminen, a medical student from Finland and part of the Rīga Stradiņš University (RSU) team, achieved the best results at the Tet Riga Marathon which was held on 19 May this year. He crossed the finish line of the 10 km race first with a result of 32 minutes and 28 seconds. This is the best achievement of the RSU team to date. Nieminen did, however, also achieve the best results from the RSU team in 2017 and 2018 by coming in second in the same race.
