New student basketball league launches – battle begins for the first title
The Sports Union of Latvian Institutions of Higher Education (LAS), in cooperation with the University of Latvia Sports Centre, invites students from Latvian higher education institutions and colleges to apply for the 2025/2026 season of the Latvian Universities Basketball League (LABL).
LABL aims to promote basketball among students, support the development of athletes, and provide opportunities to combine studies with participation in competitions at an appropriate level. During the new season, the strongest student basketball teams will be determined, and the LABL Champion’s title will be awarded.
A form about the composition of each team will be sent to team captains after the initial application form has been completed. These must be completed and submitted by 23:59 on 1 October 2025.
The regular season will run from 7 October 2025 to 6 May 2026, with the playoffs taking place in April and May 2026. Games will be held at sports facilities in Riga – 43 Skanstes iela and 333 Brīvības gatve.
Membership fee:
- EUR 65 for the entire season (per participant)
- EUR 35 per semester, payable in two instalments (per participant)
As well as competing for the title, each season offers an opportunity to make new friends, gain new experiences, and enjoy the emotions unique to student sport.
