On Saturday, 12 April, Rīga Stradiņš University (RSU) hosted an Open Day for secondary school students, teachers, parents, and other interested individuals to get acquainted with the study programmes, the university environment, and to meet students and faculty members.
RSU Rector Prof. Aigars Pētersons opened the event with a story about his own career path and shared inspiring words with prospective students. The audience was also entertained by a performance from the singer Emilija. Faculty presentations, excursions, and practical activities took place throughout the day.
At the RSU main building, 16 Dzirciema iela, visitors could learn about medicine, social sciences, sports sciences, and dentistry. The Faculty of Social Sciences hosted an interdisciplinary simulation Deepfake – Real Responsibility?, which offered an interactive exploration of the impact of new technologies on society for the first time.
The lobby of the main building was filled with representatives from the student media outlet "Skaļāk", career counsellors, and the Student Union (Studējošo pašpārvalde, SP), who provided information about student life and opportunities at the university beyond academic studies. There was also an opportunity to learn about the Erasmus+ programme and speak with current students about their experiences and everyday life at RSU.
At the RSU Centre for Pharmacy Studies and Research, 21 Konsula iela, modern laboratories where future pharmacists train were showcased. Meanwhile, at the Centre for Medical Education Technologies, 26A Anniņmuižas bulvāris, visitors were introduced to various simulations used in healthcare studies and learnt about opportunities in RSU’s healthcare study programmes. Prospective students had hands-on experience with surgical knotting and laparoscopic surgery, and visited an operating theatre and the emergency department.
The Open Day offered everyone a chance to experience the RSU environment, meet students and faculty members, and enjoy the university’s unique atmosphere.
