On Wednesday, 24 August, the Chairman of the Riga City Council Mārtiņš Staķis (PP) visited Rīga Stradiņš (RSU) together with Deputy Chairman Vilnis Ķirsis (JV), Member Inese Andersone, Head of Office Evija Celma and Ķirsis’ advisor, Gatis Liepiņš.

The delegation from the Riga City Council got acquainted with the University's development plans both on the campus at 16 Dzirciema iela and at other RSU addresses where they met with RSU Rector Professor Aigars Pētersons, the Vice-Rector for Science Agrita Kiopa, the Vice-Rector for Health Studies Prof. Guntis Bahs, the Vice-Rector for Studies Prof. Tatjana Koķe, the Director of the Department of Infrastructure Dainis Zemešs, and the Chairperson of the RSU Student Union Toms Mārtiņš Smilga.

During their visit, the newly restored RSU donor wall Vivat maecenatum caritas (Long live the patronage of charity) was unveiled in the RSU entrance hall at the RSU main building. The city’s representatives also visited the RSU dentistry pre-clinical training base, which is the most modern study facility of its kind in Northern Europe. The technologies available in the pre-clinic allow future specialists to be trained in various complex clinical situations, as explained in detail by Solvita Graudiņa from the Faculty of Dentistry. Zemešs took the delegation on a tour of the University's properties and the new development on Dārza iela, Konsula iela, and Dzirciema iela.

RSU and Riga City Council have a long-standing productive cooperation, and during the meeting the Rector emphasised the municipality’s willingness to look into any development questions RSU might have and to work towards the common goal of making the capital of Latvia a student and research-friendly urban environment.
