RSU student Laura Bajāre's internship in a Moroccan hospital

Qualified doctors with sound medical knowledge who can treat thousands of patients with numerous different illnesses with insufficient funds for medicine. A lack of funding for doctors, medicine and sterilised healthcare products, filth, patients lying by the entrance of the hospital. Laura Bajāre, a sixth year student in the Faculty of Medicine at Rīga Stradiņš University (RSU) came home from her internship in Morocco with these contrasting impressions.

Ar SIA “Mikrotīkls” atbalstu RSU pētīs bērnu ļaundabīgo audzēju gēnus

Rīga Stradiņš University (RSU) in cooperation with Latvian IT company MikroTik submitted an application for international research grant “Latvian Paediatric Cancer Genome Initiative”. Within the framework of the initiative mentioned above, the DNA sequence of children with cancer will be studied. The study will lead to improved and personalised treatment for childhood cancer in Latvia.

RSU researchers to study the impact of joint diseases caused by inflammation on neurocognitive function

In cooperation with neurologists from Austria, France, Canada and Switzerland, for three years researchers from Rīga Stradiņš University, under the leadership of Professor Valērija Groma, will be working on an interdisciplinary study on the impact of joint diseases caused by inflammation on neurocognitive function. After intense competition, this study gained support under a fundamental and applied research programme, funded by the Ministry of Education and Science and administered by the Latvian Council of Science.

Santa Slokenberga

Santa Slokenberga is a lecturer in the Faculty of Law at Rīga Stradiņš University (RSU) and one of the first graduates of the RSU Faculty of Law, who later obtained her Master’s degree in Great Britain and a doctoral degree – in Sweden. She currently splits her time between two countries – Latvia and Sweden. Santa is a postdoctoral fellow at Lund University and a researcher at Uppsala University, whereas in Latvia she gives lectures to RSU students and consults in matters related to medical law.

On Monday 15 October, Mr. Dennis Cuku will give a keynote "Cooperation in R&D, Innovation and Business with Canada" at Rīga Stradiņš University, 16 Dzirciema iela, RSU Main building, Auditorium 3. 

This event is open to students, employees and friends. The event will be hosted by the Embassy of Canada, the RSU Student Union and the RSU Technology Transfer Office (TTO) and is an ignition event to raise collaborations between both countries. 

Rīga to host 31st International Biometric Conference in 2022

In July 2018, during the 29th International Biometric Conference held in Barcelona, Spain, head of the RSU Statistical Unit, Andrejs Ivanovs, together with professor Krista Fischer from the University of Tartu presented a bid for the Scandinavian – Baltic region to host the 31st International Biometric Conference in Rīga to the board of the International Biometric Society. Munich and Buenos Aires were among the cities willing to host this event.

Children’s Health Day 2018 and International Scientific Paediatric Student Conference

The annual Children’s Health Day, organised by the Latvian Association of Paediatrics will be held at Rīga Stradiņš University and the RSU Medical Education Technology Centre on 2 and 3 November. Thanks to the RSU Paediatric Student Interest Group, the event will include the International Scientific Paediatric Student Conference, to which all students interested in paediatrics are invited.
