On Thursday 4 April Rīga Stradiņš University Rector, Professor Aigars Pētersons, was presented with an Academic Diploma at the spring general meeting of the Latvian Academy of Sciences (LAS). The diploma was presented by LAS President Ojārs Spārītis and LAS Academician Baiba Rivža.
Professor Pētersons thanked everyone assembled and emphasised how honoured he was to become a full member of LAS. Professor Pētersons was elected to become an LAS Academician at the autumn general meeting on 29 November 2018.
On Wednesday 3 April Rīga Stradiņš University (RSU) signed a cooperation agreement with Bar-Ilan University and Ziv Medical Center establishing a clinical training centre. This will provide RSU students who wish to become physicians an even more international path. As of this autumn, RSU students will have the opportunity to undergo their clinical placement in orthopaedics in Israel under the leadership of experienced physicians.
A competition for best poster presentation was held at the conference Knowledge for Use in Practice which was part of RSU Research Week 2019. The winners were determined by a jury composed of 110 experts who evaluated a total of 433 poster presentations submitted in 18 sections. 52 posters received the highest score. In addition, online voting took place in over 200 voters participated. The voters were participants and attendees of Research Week events.
What is constructive journalism? Why is it essential in today’s constantly changing world? How can it be created? These are just some of the questions that will be discussed during the event – A Day of Constructive Journalism. This event for current and prospective media and communication specialists was held on Wednesday 3 April, from 9:00 to 15:30 at the RSU Medical Education Technology Centre (26a Anniņmuižas blvd., Room 130).
On 2 April the 3rd Baltic Sea Symposium on Simulation and Virtual Reality for Health Care Education and Patient Safety was held at the Medical Education Technology Centre (METC) of Rīga Stradiņš University (RSU). Participants from Latvia, Lithuania, Germany, Italy and other countries got acquainted with the latest equipment, methods and trends in the improvement of simulation-based study process.
The 24th student conference on morphology sciences will be held on 9 May 2019. The conference will take place at the RSU Institute of Anatomy and Anthropology (IAA). The presentation language at the conference will be English for the first time this year.
On Monday 1 April at 17:30 the inauguration ceremony for two recipients of the RSU Honorary Doctorate degree (Doctor Honoris Causa) was held in the Great Hall of Rīga Stradiņš University at 16 Dzirciema iela. The Honorary Doctorate degree was conferred on Professor Matthew Goldsmith (USA) and Professor Eugene Minevich (USA) in recognition of their contribution to the development of studies and research at RSU.
On 25–26 April Liepāja Business Incubator will host a hackathon sprint. The goal of the hackathon is to develop ideas for an e-tool with the aim of creating ICT solutions or applications to prevent various diseases among young people.
The interdisciplinary social sciences conference PLACES took place at Rīga Stradiņš University (16 Dzirciema iela) on 2 April. The conference covered such areas as social anthropology, psychology, law and economics, media and communication, politics and international relations. It was opened by speakers from Sweden, Spain and Latvia.
The Rīga Stradiņš University (RSU) Research Week started on Monday, 1 April, with the opening of the conference Knowledge for Use in Practice. The conference on medicine and health sciences will be a three-day event and serve as a platform for cooperation for both local and international researchers, as well as for industry representatives and diaspora organisations; meanwhile, a conference specifically dedicated to social sciences will be held on 2 April.
