The Institute of Microbiology and Virology of the RSU Science Hub (IMV SH) is a scientific institute that independently carries out scientific, paedagogical, and consulting activities in the fields of medical microbiology, virology, molecular biology, clinical immunology, immunogenetics, autoimmune diseases, and biotechnology within the framework of Rīga Stradiņš University (RSU). The Institute conducts research on viral transmission, mechanisms of action, infectious or associated diseases and their pathogenesis, identifies biomarkers used in diagnostics and monitors the effectiveness of treatment and possible prevention approaches, as well as carries out research in the field of biotechnology in accordance with current research issues and needs.
IMV SH implements both national and international scientific grants, programmes, research projects, and clinical trials.
IMV SH is a member of international organisations and associations such as the Union for International Cancer Control (UICC), the European Society for Virology, the International Association for Chronic Fatigue Syndrome (IACFS/ME), and the American Society for Microbiology (ASM).
