The summer admission period concluded on Tuesday 9 July with a record number of applications for Rīga Stradiņš University (RSU) undergraduate study programmes. This year RSU received 7099 applications submitted by 2273 persons. This is an increase of 20% in the number of applicants compared to last year.

As of 9 July RSU has received 7214 applications, including applications for postgraduate and doctoral programmes whgich reached a record number in the history of RSU. The admission period for postgraduate programmes will end on 13 August, while for doctoral programmes – on 16 August.

This year’s admission results to various RSU undergraduate programmes give much satisfaction to RSU's powerful team that helped create a success story of our university in the international arena,' says RSU Rector Professor Aigars Pētersons. As applicants frequently said during the admission period, RSU is their choice due to its many assets: high-quality education, study programmes that fit their interests, well-organised learning environment and good reputation.

Currently RSU predicts that all 760 government-funded study places will be filled. RSU even received more than 10 applications per place in several study programmes. Medicine was the most competitive study programme with 1180 applications – 6 applicants per one government-funded study place. Among other popular undergraduate study programmes were Physiotherapy (14 applicants per government-funded study place), Occupational Therapy (13), Dentistry (9), Audiology and Speech Therapy (9) and Pharmacy (6), while 34 persons applied for one government-funded study place in the Nutrition study programme.

Among the social sciences' study programmes the most competitive were Psychology (352 applications), Law (298), Multimedia Communication (291), International Marketing and Advertising (251) and International Relations – European Studies (229).

Meanwhile Physician’s Assistant, Medical Massage and Nursing were this summer’s most in demand study programmes at RSU Liepāja Branch.

For the sake of convenience applicants had the opportunity to submit their applications in person this year, not only at the RSU main building in Riga and at the RSU Liepāja Branch, but also in Daugavpils, where the total number of applicants reached 151.
