On 2 and 5 October, the Statistics Unit of Riga Stradiņš University hosted guest lectures on clinical trials. The guest lectures were led by guest lecturers from Chalmers University of Technology Professor Ziad Taib and Associate Professor Krista Fischer, University of Tartu.

During the guest lectures, Prof. Ziad Taib presented key concepts of the clinical trials as well as the structure, design and statistical issues in the clinical trials. While on 5 October Krista Fischer held a lecture on causal inference in clinical trials. The guest lecturer in her presentation introduced the main concepts of causal inference, highlighted the issues of causal questions in randomised controlled trials and principal stratification.

The guest lectures were attended by more than 80 participants, among them RSU teachers and students, representatives from the pharmaceutical companies – Olainfarm, Silvanols, Grindeks, Novartis Pharma services as well as representatives from Roche Latvia, Dokumeds, the Centre for Disease Prevention and Control and the State Emergency Medical Service.
