On 17 May, at the Rimi Rīga Marathon, a large team of runners from Rīga Stradiņš University (RSU) represented the university in all distances - the marathon, half marathon, 10 km, and 6 km races. This year again, RSU was among the largest teams participating in the event, alongside the teams from Rimi and the University of Latvia.

The number of RSU marathon runners grows

‘We are especially pleased that the number of RSU students and staff choosing to compete in one of the most challenging athletic disciplines - the 42 kilometres marathon - is increasing every year. This year, 64 RSU runners successfully finished the marathon distance, compared to 42 participants last year.

This confirms not only the growing interest in running within the university community, but also the determination, endurance, and willingness of students and staff to challenge themselves,’ said Laura Ritova, Manager of the RSU Sports Club.

 Join the RSU Runners Club!

Following the marathon, RSU encourages students and staff to maintain an active lifestyle and join the RSU Runners Club, established in 2025. Throughout the year, the club actively brings together runners of different fitness levels for group training sessions and group runs in various locations across Rīga.

Group runs are not competition - they are meant for fun, exercise, and socialising for anyone to join, regardless of their previous experience or physical fitness.

Organisers of the RSU Runners Club are planning to hold regular group training sessions at least once a week and invite anyone motivated to exercise also after the marathon to join them.

You can join the RSU Runners Club via its WhatsApp group.
