Career direction workbook

The career direction workbook is meant to help young people discover their potential career, choice of profession or study program and with other adventures.

The main aim of the workbook is to provide high-school students and 1st-year university students with a way in which to find the most exciting career path. The workbook will help them do so in an informal way through self-discovery, to develop a plan and find the next steps to reach their goal. Students will get the workbook at a consultation and can then fill it out together with a consultant. Students can also reach out to the Career Centre to receive a copy.

The workbook has four chapters: ME, THE WORLD, MY CAREER and MY PLAN.

With the help of the questions posed in the workbook students can:

  • uncover aspects of their personality;
  • discover their attitude towards the world, what they like and what they want to change;
  • define possible career paths and business choices;
  • compare choices, their approximate costs and define further steps.

The workbook’s aim is to:

  • provide students with a tool to discover their personal potential career directions;
  • help students find answers to their questions and to develop their own business ideas;
  • use both hemispheres of the brain (both the imagination and constructive thinking), and in doing so to recognise and define the next steps towards the career direction they have found;
  • reveal a confidence in shaping the future and make choices by introducing students to valuable questions they can ask themselves and others;
  • inspire students to pursue their goals.
Psychological support

Psychological support for students

It’s natural to feel low, tense, anxious, or frustrated at times — especially when the usual rhythm of life is disrupted, and new challenges arise. These feelings can make it harder to focus on studies and everyday life.

Understanding your emotions and finding ways to manage them is important, and psychological counselling can be one of the most effective ways to get back on track.

Urgent consultations

The psychologist provides students with immediate psychological support, for example, in cases of acute stress, conflicts in the study environment, lack of social support, or crisis situations. Each urgent consultation consists of one session. If, after the session, it is determined that additional support is needed, the psychologist will recommend signing up for free, regularly scheduled individual consultations.

Register for an urgent consultation

Urgent consultations take place on Wednesdays from 10:00 to 14:00.

Please note: Each student may use the urgent consultation service only once a month. It is generally recommended to apply first for regularly scheduled individual psychological consultations. Appointments for urgent consultations are available on a first-come, first-served basis.

The RSU Career Guidance and Wellbeing centre is now located in new premises at 12 Vīlipa iela (near the RSU Main Building on 16 Dzirciema iela).

University Chaplain services

University is a time of significant change. For many students, it is their first time living away from home or encountering ideas that change their perspective on the world. It may be during this time in their lives that some begin to question their faith, while others become more interested in religion and spirituality.

When to turn to a chaplain:

  • In times of difficulty or crisis – during loss, grief or emotional exhaustion;

  •  When spiritual support is needed;

  • When questions arise about the meaning of life, values or faith;

  • During challenges in work or personal life, when comfort or advice is needed;

  • Before important decisions, when you want to consider them from a spiritual perspective, etc.

Although university chaplains belong to a specific religion or denomination, they are a valuable support for people of any faith to listen and help them reflect on or explore current issues related to life and faith.

RSU chaplains are Raimonds Mežiņš, Pēteris Tervits, Gunita Tālberga.

*If you would like to meet with one of the university chaplains, please apply at least a week in advance.

Meetings are free of charge. Online and in person at Vīlipa Street 12.
