On 20 January 2026, the Rector of Rīga Stradiņš University (RSU), Prof. Aigars Pētersons, and the President of the Senate, Prof. Jānis Gardovskis, congratulated Prof. Romans Lācis, Head of the Advisory Board of the Cardiac Surgery Centre at Pauls Stradiņš Clinical University Hospital (PSCUS) and professor at RSU, on his 80th birthday.
In February 2026, Rīga Stradiņš University (RSU) welcomed 262 new international students from 31 countries as part of the February intake. Following a competitive admissions cycle that attracted 621 applicants from 80 countries, students began their studies in Medicine (230 students) and Dentistry (32 students).
Demand for RSU’s programmes remains strong, with 2.28 applicants per study place in Medicine and 3.10 applicants per place in Dentistry, reflecting the university’s growing international reputation.
Yesterday, 27 January, the Rector of Rīga Stradiņš University (RSU), Prof. Aigars Pētersons, formally expressed his gratitude to the Chair of the Senate, Prof. Dr habil. med. Jānis Gardovskis, and to the Head of the Department of Orthopaedics at the RSU Faculty of Medicine, Prof. Andris Jumtiņš, for their high-quality and responsible work in representing RSU’s interests on hospital boards.

Rīga Stradiņš University (RSU) Library has gratefully accepted a book donation from the Embassy of India in Latvia, which will enrich the library’s collection and promote access to academic and cultural resources for the RSU community.
The donation to the RSU Library was received during a ceremony on 23 January, attended by H.E. Namrata Satdeve Kumar, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of India to Latvia.
New findings from a study conducted by the Rīga Stradiņš University (RSU) Institute of Public Health provide convincing economic evidence that vaccination is not only an effective public health promotion tool, but also a cost-effective long-term investment in Latvia’s healthcare system. Using health economic models developed in Latvia, researchers at the RSU Institute of Public Health have demonstrated that three vaccination strategies simultaneously improve patient health outcomes and reduce the long-term financial burden of disease.
As the role of artificial intelligence (AI) continues to grow in entrepreneurship, it is becoming increasingly important for modern managers not only to understand the potential of these technologies, but also to use them purposefully and responsibly in strategically important business processes. For this reason, the Lifelong Learning Centre of Rīga Stradiņš University (RSU) has developed a new micro-credential (short format) programme Artificial Intelligence Management.
