From 18 September to 8 October, European Sustainable Development Week (ESDW) will take place across Europe, including in Latvia, for the eleventh time. Its goal is to encourage and inspire society to act sustainably, share experiences, showcase good practices, and strengthen a common understanding of how to build a balanced future in an economical, social, and environmentally friendly way.
This week, Riga will host the international PMNET forum, which will bring together experts in healthcare, research, and innovation from across Europe. As part of the forum, a special discussion dedicated to patient organisations will take place on 9 October from 10:30 to 12:00 at the National Library of Latvia: How to strengthen patient organisations and promote their involvement in research and innovation projects?
On 6 October, Rīga Stradiņš University (RSU) Rector Prof. Aigars Pētersons, participated in the Latvian Television programme "Uz līnijas", where viewers asked questions about the development of higher education in Latvia, the role of international students, the prestige of vocational education, and the integration of artificial intelligence into studies.
The rector emphasised: ‘Our goal is to maintain high-quality, people-centered education, while boldly integrating artificial intelligence and innovation into the study process.’
The Rīga Stradiņš University (RSU) Institute of Public Health is one of the partners in the international project JADE Health (Joint Action addressing DEmentia and HEALTH), which aims to mitigate the burden of neurological disorders, including dementia.
Ieva Vaivode will defend her doctoral dissertation on 4 November in an open meeting of the Clinical Medicine doctoral committee. Her dissertation is titled 'Selenium Status, Psychological Stress, and Immunoregulatory Gene Polymorphisms in Personalised Understanding of Autoimmune Thyroid Diseases.'

Rīga Stradiņš University (RSU) has taken a significant step towards digital transformation by establishing a new structural unit – the Artificial Intelligence Support Unit (AISU). Its primary aim is to accelerate the adoption and integration of artificial intelligence (AI) tools in the University’s teaching, research, and administrative processes, while also providing knowledge and practical support to RSU staff for the effective use of these tools.
This seminar offers a space for critical reflection and skill-building on the application of intersectionality in research and institutional change. Through interactive seminar, participants will engage with intersectional theory while also working with practical tools for data collection, analysis, and indicators that promote more inclusive and equitable research practices.

On 23 September, Rīga Stradiņš University (RSU) and the international pharmaceutical company Novartis Baltics (Novartis) signed a memorandum of cooperation, providing comprehensive placement opportunities for students in the fields of medicine, business, medicinal products value and market access, registration, logistics, and pharmacovigilance.
