Three years ago while standing on a navigation bridge in the Caribbean Sea Artūrs Šakurovs, a student at the Latvian Maritime Academy, decided on a rapid change of course – not for the ship, but for his future plans.
Exactly 30 years ago the First World Congress of Latvian Physicians was held from 18 to 27 June 1989. The congress attracted 6 000 medical professionals from all over the world, including over 1 000 nurses from Latvia and abroad.
On 12 June a delegation from the People’s Republic of China from the University of Nottingham Ningbo visited Rīga Stradiņš University (RSU). On Friday 21 June Rīga Stradiņš University (RSU) hosted the first of its summer graduation ceremonies. 58 young healthcare specialists, graduates from the Liepāja Branch of RSU, were the first to obtain their diplomas. Graduation ceremonies will be held in the RSU Great Hall in Riga from 25 to 28 June where 960 graduates from nine faculties will be awarded diplomas – among them 118 international students. A total of 1018 graduates will be receiving their diplomas this summer including 258 social sciences students.
On Wednesday 19 June Rīga Stradiņš University (RSU) hosted a traditional summer solstice event honouring those RSU employees whose name days fall on Latvian midsummer (23 and 24 June) - 25 women named Līga and 36 men named Jānis.
RSU Rector, Professor Aigars Pētersons, addressed employees praising their work over the previous academic year and encouraged them to start preparing for the weekend’s midsummer celebrations after such hard work.
Residents from the Faculty of Continuing Education partook in a training session on 6 June at the Doctors Safe Train (DST) operating theatre. It is a modern operating theatre equipped with innovative medical devices where the residents were able to practice performing complicated procedures under the supervision of experienced surgeon Sergejs Šapovalovs. The eight prospective physicians were gathered around two operation tables to learn various skills in life-like conditions.
‘I was very surprised about winning the award,’ Rolands Bļujus admits frankly. Bļujus is the E-studies Manager at the Department of Study Process Quality Analysis at the Rīga Stradiņš University (RSU) Centre for Educational Growth (CEG). This year Bļujus received the RSU Administrative Employee of the Year award for his responsiveness, enthusiasm and long-term contribution to the development of the e-studies environment. 26 employees were nominated in this category.
This year the Rīga Stradiņš University (RSU) Alumni Association celebrates its 10th anniversary. On 7 June members of the RSU Alumni Association gathered at the restaurant Annas Dārzs to celebrate this event together, and to reminisce about the past decade.
