On Tuesday, 19 May, the Rīga Stradiņš University (RSU) senate decided to grant the title of RSU Honorary Doctor (Doctor Honoris Causa) to Vaira Vīķe-Freiberga, former President of Latvia (1999–2007), Vilis Vītols, patron and Chairman of the Vītols Fund Council, and Zaiga Alksne-Phillips, paediatrician and founder of the Vītols Fund scholarship. The inauguration ceremony will take place on 24 March 2021 at the ceremonious senate meeting in honour of the 70th anniversary of RSU.
Michael Pohar is a full-time student at Rīga Stradiņš University (RSU) currently in his 8th semester. He is simultaneously a doctoral student at the Heinrich Heine University (HHU) in Düsseldorf writing his academic medical doctoral thesis (Dr. Med. Thesis). Some students choose to start writing these theses already during their studies, rather than waiting to graduate, as with other academic degrees.
For many years, the Rīga Stradiņš University (RSU) mixed choir Rīga, has addressed new singers with the slogan 'Don't sing in the shower - join the choir!' Today, as the singers cannot meet in person for rehearsals, they encourage everyone to sing wherever they are, even in the shower, by posting a video of its members singing at home, at work or outdoors.
As Rīga Stradiņš University (RSU) has been conducting all studies remotely from 12 March, the defence of doctoral theses will likewise be held online this spring. RSU doctoral student and pneumonologist Dace Žentiņa will defend her doctoral thesis on 29 May, at 15:00, in an open online meeting of the Clinical Medicine Degree Committee using Zoom.
Latvians are most concerned about the uncertainty regarding how COVID-19 could develop over the next months, the likelihood of themselves or family members getting ill, as well as the impact the pandemic could have on the economy, both in Latvia and globally. These are some of the conclusions drawn from a survey initiated by the Vytautas Magnus University in Kaunas that was implemented by researchers from the Faculty of Communication at Rīga Stradiņš University (RSU).
The 25th Student Morphology Sciences Conference was held at the Rīga Stradiņš Unviersity (RSU) Institute of Anatomy and Anthropology on 14 May 2020. 48 students participated by presenting 35 research papers (four were dedicated to the microscopic study of tissues, while 31 – to anatomy and anthropology).
