While other universities are still in the planning stages of introducing a competency development approach to learning, the Faculty of European Studies at Rīga Stradiņš University (RSU) has already implemented and fine-tuned this approach. Ligita Landzmane teaches Management Psychology at RSU. Her students do not merely listen to lectures, but are able to take advantage of the opportunities that Landzmane provides to observe how what they are learning is put to use by modern entrepreneurs and managers.

The lecture will cover such topics as the neurobiology of trauma, attachment and early relational rauma, intergenerational trauma, and trauma and therapeutic relationship.

The 4th NEURO-Course in Neuropathology: Pathology of Central and Peripheral Nervous System will take place on 11–12 October at the hotel Radisson Blu Daugava in Riga. The conference is organised by the Baltic Association of Neuropathologists, the RSU Department of Pathology, and the RSU Alumni Association. Registration is open until October 6.
Several hundreds of audiologists, occupational therapists, physiotherapists, nutrition specialists, art therapists and other rehabilitation professionals came together for the First Latvian National Congress of Rehabilitation Medicine which took place on 19 – 20 September at Rīga Stradiņš University (RSU). Dysphagia, or swallowing difficulties, was one of the themes discussed during the congress.
For the first time Rīga Stradiņš University (RSU) is launching a new diplomacy study programme in English. The programme International Governance and Diplomacy has students from Latvia, Germany, the UK, Armenia, Georgia and Cameroon. This two-year study programme is in the Faculty of European Studies and prepares students to become qualified international relations specialists with broad career opportunities.
On 18 September, Prof. Gunta Lazdāne, who is the Director of the RSU Institute of Public Health, was a guest on the Latvijas Radio 1 programme Zināmais nezināmajā (The Known Unknown). The topic of the programme was contraception - the latest research, attitudes in society, their impact on nature and the body, as well as the diversity of contraceptive methods.
As autumn and winter approach, vaccines becomes an increasingly popular topic of discussion in every family, and in every general practicioners' office. MD DrPH Victoria Wells Wulsin from the University of Cincinatti gave a guest lecture at Rīga Stradiņš University (RSU) on 17 September - Immunization Practices in the USA: Successes, Challenges, and Lessons.
British Ambassador to Latvia Mr Keith Shannon invites British students studying at Rīga Stradiņš University and other universities in Latvia to a meeting with him and his colleagues from the British Embassy in Rīga.
This will be an opportunity to find out more about the work of the British Embassy as well as to discuss Brexit. Representatives from Latvia's Office of Citizenship and Migration Affairs and the Ministry of Education will also be present.
