RSU Expert Video: Dieting and eating disorders adversely affect women's reproductive health

Nowadays, we are well aware of the adverse effects of eating too much, but women's health is also adversely affected by the opposite problem - diets and eating disorders such as anorexia and bulimia. This problem is also acute in Latvia where 10% of 15-year-old girls are overweight or obese, but 25% of girls of this age follow diets. Laila Meija, Associate Professor and dietitian at Rīga Stradiņš University (RSU), explains the damage that this can do to a woman's reproductive health.

EATRIS representatives visit RSU

Representatives from EATRIS (The European Advanced Translational Research Infrastructure in Medicine) visited Rīga Stradiņš University (RSU) on 1 - 2 October. EATRIS is part of the European Research Infrastructure Consortium (ERIC) that brings together European countries with the aim of speeding up development of new medicines and diagnostic methods by fostering access to a modern, trans-European infrastructure.

Toms Pulmanis will defend his doctoral dissertation on 19 November at 13:00 in an open meeting of the Medicine Degree Committee in the Hippocrates Auditorium (16 Dzirciema Iela). Pulmanis' dissertation is titled 'Factors associated with suicidal behaviour in adolescents in Latvia'.

133 medical residents graduated from Rīga Stradiņš University this year

On 27 September, a graduation ceremony for medical residents from the Faculty of Continuing Education was held in the Great Hall of Rīga Stradiņš University (RSU). 133 residents graduated from RSU this year which is an increase of 10 students compared to the previous year. The young physicians studied in both government-funded and self-paid study positions and represent 47 specialities and sub-specialities.

RSU ISA 8th Anniversary

The Rīga Stradiņš University International Student Association (RSU ISA) was founded in 2011 by a group of international students and is this year celebrating its 8th anniversary. As a part of the anniversary celebrations RSU ISA is organising an entire Anniversary Week, 14–18 October 2019. This anniversary is dedicated to the extraordinary contribution that the association’s members and supporters have made, and to those who have committed themselves to improving student life for the past eight years.
