Songs have always been a universal tool for Latvian people in their daily lives, whether to lull a baby to sleep, to celebrate a holiday in a small circle of friends, or to sing together with thousands of other people on the Mežaparks stage. Songs are a part of our national identity that shows our strength and resiliance.

‘What is happening in Ukraine at the moment is unimaginable. We, the singers and conductors of the Rīga Stradiņš University (RSU) mixed choir Rīga, want to sing from the bottom of our hearts to support Ukraine, at least emotionally. We hope the song gives strength to everyone! Слава Україні!’ said Evita Taranda, one of the choir's conductors.

‘In response to the call of a Ukrainian Choral Society named after Mykola Leontovych, we also got acquainted with Ukrainian choral music and recorded a video of two wonderful Ukrainian folk songs we sang. We invite everyone to listen to composer Mykola Leontovych’s folk songs "Goodbye, glory!" (Прощай, слава!) and "Oh, by the river, by the Ordan" (Ой на річці, на Ордані).’
