Kristīne Baumane will defend her doctoral dissertation on 12 December at 16:00 in an open meeting of the Medicine Degree Committee. Baumane's dissertation is titled 'Influence of primary open angle glaucoma surgery on structural and functional parameters of the optic nerve and its association with the level of atrial natriuretic peptide'.

2019 White Coat Celebrations of the Faculty of Dentistry

On 8 November, third year students of the Faculty of Dentistry participated in the White Coat Celebration in the Great Hall of Rīga Stradiņš University (RSU). The tradition marks students’ transition from preclinical training with dummies to clinical work with real patients at the Student Clinic of the RSU Institute of Stomatology. More than 90 prospective dentists, both local and international students, attended the event.

RSU Participates in International Meeting of the Healthy Boost Project in Kaunas

A training session on how to use a model for cross-sectoral cooperation developed by researchers at the Institute of Public Health of Rīga Stradiņš University (RSU) took place in Kaunas, Lithuania, on November 12-13. This session was part of the European Union Interreg Baltic Sea Region programme’s project ‘Urban Labs for Better Health for All in the Baltic Sea Region – boosting cross-sectoral cooperation for health and wellbeing in the cities (Healthy Boost)’.

RSU strengthens cooperation with international clinics

Representatives from a number of international medical institutions that partner with Rīga Stradiņš University (RSU) visited Riga on 7 – 8 November. During the meeting current issues related to the reorganisation of the Medicine study programme (Medicine 2.0) were discussed, including placement opportunities during the last study year. 

RSU Professor Gunta Ancāne delivers lecture in Berlin

In late October, Dr. med. Gunta Ancāne, a professor at the Rīga Stradiņš University (RSU) Department of Psychosomatic Medicine and Psychotherapy and Head of the Psychosomatic Clinic, was invited to deliver a series of lectures to doctors at the Academy of Psychosomatic Medicine and Psychotherapy in Berlin, Germany.

Over the next four years, the Institute of Public Health at Rīga Stradiņš University (RSU) will be participating in the project “Towards elimination of cervical cancer: intelligent and personalised solutions for cancer screening” to modernise cervical cancer screenings. They will be collaborating in this project with the Institute of Family Medicine and Public Health of the University of Tartu (Estonia), the Lithuanian University of Health Sciences, and the Norwegian Cancer Registry.

Sniedze Laivacuma will defend her doctoral dissertation on 2 December at 15:00 in an open meeting of the Medicine Degree Committee in the Hippocrates Auditorium (16 Dzirciema Iela). Laivacuma's dissertation is titled 'Improvement of echinococcosis diagnostics using ethiological, biochemical, immunological and immunogenetic markers and identification of infection risk factors in Latvia'.
