Currently the number of HIV-positive persons who are unaware of their disease is around 1800, as concluded after carrying out a mathematical modelling study. The international project was initiated in 2015 and carried out by Rīga Stradiņš University, in cooperation with institutions from France, Belgium and Estonia. The results that cover actual HIV transmission in Latvia and current identification approaches will be presented on 19 October during the concluding seminar at the RSU Medical Education Technology Centre.
On 11 October, neurologist and Assistant Professor of the Department of Neurology and Neurosurgery of the Faculty of Medicine, Rīga Stradiņš University (RSU) Zanda Priede received the Golden Own Award by AS Grindeks for her significant contribution to science. Cardiologist Vilnis Dzērve-Tāluts received the D.H. Grindelis Award for lifetime achievement in recognition of his contribution to medicine and pharmacy in Latvia.
On 2 November Rīga Stradiņš University Transplantology Scientific Laboratory in cooperation with Latvian Association of Transplantologists and the Latvian Transplantation Centre is organising a scientific practical conference Gift of Life – 2000 Kidney Transplantations at Latvia's 100 Year Anniversary.

On 18 and 19 October, social anthropologists from Rīga Stradiņš University, together with the assistance from the Baltic-German University Liaison Office, in conjuction with the Max Planck Institute for Social Anthropology and the Latvian Association of Anthropologists organised a conference "Tracing Informality in Southeast and Northeast Europe: Anthropological Perspectives".
As part of Informality Research Days, on 22 October at 18:00 teaching staff of the Rīga Stradiņš University Social anthropology programme are organising a presentation of The Global Encyclopaedia of Informality at the Bolderāja cafe.

On Friday 19 October, the final seminar of the "European Research on Mathematical Modelling and Experimentation of HIV Testing In Hidden Communities (HERMETIC)" project will be held at the RSU Medical Education Technology Centre.
Rīga Stradiņš University (RSU) in cooperation with Latvian IT company MikroTik submitted an application for international research grant “Latvian Paediatric Cancer Genome Initiative”. Within the framework of the initiative mentioned above, the DNA sequence of children with cancer will be studied. The study will lead to improved and personalised treatment for childhood cancer in Latvia.
In cooperation with neurologists from Austria, France, Canada and Switzerland, for three years researchers from Rīga Stradiņš University, under the leadership of Professor Valērija Groma, will be working on an interdisciplinary study on the impact of joint diseases caused by inflammation on neurocognitive function. After intense competition, this study gained support under a fundamental and applied research programme, funded by the Ministry of Education and Science and administered by the Latvian Council of Science.
