The annual Obstetrics and Gynaecology – Current and Discussable Matters congress took place between 3 and 4 October in Kiev. It was organised by the Association of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists of Ukraine. Latvia was represented at the congress by a delegation made up of medical residents Elizabete Pumpure, Anita Ungure and Santa Smilga from the Gynaecologist, Obstetrician study programme of the Faculty of Continuing Education at Rīga Stradiņš University (RSU). The residents were invited to participate in a session targeting young industry specialists, thus continuing a cooperation between Latvia and Ukraine initiated in 2018.

At the young specialists’ session, the residents delivered their reports on the 1st Eastern European Networking Congress for Trainees in Obstetrics and Gynaecology organised this year, the risk factors of post-partum endometritis, clinical cases of uterine ruptures, and took part in discussions on matters related to these topics. They also shared their experience on different approaches in dealing with clinical cases during everyday practice.

Among the congress participants were Prof. Jacky Nizard, the president of the European Board and College of the Obstetrics and Gynaecology (EBCOG), representatives of the board Prof. Juriy Wladimiroff, Dr. Frank A. Chervenak, the  former director of the Committee for the Ethical Aspects of Human Reproduction and Women’s Health of the International Federation of Gynaecology and Obstetrics (FIGO), as well as Dr. Agnieszka Horała, the board representative of the European Network of Trainees in Obstetrics and Gynaecology (ENTOG). Participants had the honour of meeting these experts in person to discuss current topical issues mainly focusing on the equality and quality of resident training in Europe.

The delegation expressed their sincere gratitude to the Association of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists in Ukraine, especially to its secretary Dr. Yuliya Mudra, and to the EBCOG representative in Eastern Europe Prof. Andriy Tkachenko for receiving the invitation to participate in the event.
