Study course description
Preliminary Knowledge:
Introduction to law and civil law.
Objective:
To provide students with a thorough knowledge of family and inheritance law, the role thereof in ensuring private and personal rights, to develop the ability to look at the family and inheritance law in the context of the legal system, to identify problems, including oppositions of practice and theory, and to offer legal solutions thereto, and to provide theoretical insight and skills of practical application of legal provisions.

Assessment
Unaided Work:
Independent work consists of studying academic and scientific literature, analysis of legislation and case law. Writing reflections on court judgements on topical family and inheritance law issues, preparation of procedural documents in family and inheritance law. In order to evaluate the quality of the study course as a whole, the student must fill out the study course evaluation questionnaire on the Student Portal.
Assessment Criteria:
The final assessment is constituted by a reflection on family law (10%), a reflection on inheritance law (10%), preparation of a procedural document in family law (15%), preparation of a procedural document in inheritance law (15%) and the examination grade (50%). When assessing independent work, completeness of meeting the requirements, quality of reasoning, correspondence of the expression style to the requirements of grammar and professional legal language are taken into account.

Learning Outcomes
Knowledge:In-depth understanding of family and inheritance law institutions (engagement, marriage, spouses’ personal and property relations, relations between family members, parents and children and property relations, adoption, guardianship, custody, kinship, documents of civil status, paternity, inheritance, acceptance thereof, testamentary and legal inheritance, classes of heirs, wills, inheritance agreements), ability to define the substance and content thereof, understanding the process of divorce proceedings, the administration of inheritance matters, understanding of the operation and significance of the custody court in the personal and property relations of parents and children.
Skills:To apply relevant legal provisions in solving specific legal situations, prepare procedural documents of family and inheritance law, analyse problems and provide an independent, motivated assessment thereof, offer a solution to the situation, using the latest trends and insights.
Competencies:To apply the knowledge and skills in professional activities, apply legal methods for solving problems related to family and inheritance law systematically and rationally, constantly improving one’s qualification, analyse legal information (processing of legal information), identify problems, being able to offer adequate solutions, present one’s opinion, participate in discussions.
