Assessment
Unaided Work:
The students will have access to a short summary of each topic, international guidelines or important review article and websites with videos in clinical medicine in order to practice the neccessary procedures.
Assessment Criteria:
Attendance of lectures and classes is mandatory; work with study materials and literature; engagement in team during simulations; demonstration of knowledge during the post simulation debrief.
Final Examination (Full-Time):Exam
Final Examination (Part-Time):
Learning Outcomes
Knowledge:The students will learn the physiology of the most common life-threatening conditions in children (with attention to the specific compensatory mechanisms) and critical interventions to prevent them. In addition, the students will be gradually introduced to the concepts of structured approach and crisis resource management.
Skills:Structured assessment of a critically ill child. Positive pressure ventilation with face mask and bag. Endotracheal intubation. Closed chest compressions. Intraosseous access. Administration of medication in emergencies. Fluid challenge/ administration of fluid bolus in children. Leadership/ teamwork/ communication in crisis.
Competencies:The students will be able to do both: take leadership by using theory and management principles and be part of a productive team by using practical skills and effective communication. The competencies will be universally applicable, far beyond the simulated situations during the course.
