Study course description
Preliminary Knowledge:
Knowledge and skills of the English language according to the programme requirements of upper-secondary school (B1 – C1).
Objective:
Develop communicative skills in English to ensure successful communication during study process and work in the chosen speciality; promote the development of professional terminology and its practical application.

Assessment
Unaided Work:
Students prepare one theme each week from a textbook – reading texts (also additional texts from other sources), doing written tasks, working on medical terms. In order to evaluate the quality of the study course as a whole, the student must fill out the study course evaluation questionnaire on the Student Portal.
Assessment Criteria:
• active participation in practical classes; keeping deadlines for handing in written tasks; written and spoken communication of good quality; • presentation on a chosen theme; • passing tests on medical terms and their usage; • final test (written and oral) on the knowledge of medical terms, their usage, text comprehension and understanding of specific information, and adequate written use of the language and speaking skills.

Learning Outcomes
Knowledge:After having completed the study course successfully, students will: • recognise professional terms in various texts, • name the most common medical terms in English, • describe problems related to patient care using professional terms in English.
Skills:After having completed the study course successfully, students will be able to choose and apply appropriate medical terms in written and spoken communication using appropriate means of the language to express their opinion both in written and spoken communication.
Competencies:After having completed the study course successfully, students will be able to use the terms in various situations with patients of different age groups according to patients' health issues in the clinical environment.
