Assessment
Unaided Work:
Individual work with professional literature on ophthalmology and e-study materials. The students do refraction tests independently and perform eye test with direct ophthalmoscope. The students perform practical work with anterior part surgical simulator, performing stages of cataract surgery.
Assessment Criteria:
Practical work during each practical class which is assessed with pass/fail, at the end of course – an OSCE exam (assessed on a scale 1 – 10).
Final Examination (Full-Time):Exam (OSCE)
Final Examination (Part-Time):
Learning Outcomes
Knowledge:On successful completion of the course the students will have acquired in-depth knowledge and will be able to describe additional eye investigation techniques and to explain relation of ophthalmic diseases to other diseases.
Skills:On successful course completion the students will be able to: • perform a refraction test; • perform cataract surgery using anterior part surgical simulator.
Competencies:On successful completion of the study course programme the student will be ready to work with ophthalmic patients in General Practitioner’s surgery and to continue their further studies. The students will be able to take care of ophthalmic patients in GP’s surgery in compliance with ethical and legal aspects, to evaluate the judgement of an ophthalmologist and to plan the examination and treatment of a patient; to interpret the results of ophthalmic examination, to relate these results to the specific clinical situation and to link them with the joint examination process.
