Assessment | |||||||||
Unaided Work: | Students independently examine the ENT organs. They do a clinical case study, prepare a medical history and a case report, present and discuss it.
Assessment Criteria: | 1)Assessment of theoretical knowledge held on E-studies within one week prior to the corresponding practical class in a format of MCQ test (Multiple Choice Questions) or essay type questions about individually read material and literature about the topic. 2)During each practical class, each student is evaluated individually with a mark in a 10-grade system according to student’s involvement and activity during the class and the knowledge that he/she demonstrate. Criteria: • Student arrived on time for the class, • Student is in appropriate attire (white coat, change of shoes), • Student actively participates in the discussion, patient examination and/or analysis of clinical case, correctly answers teacher’s questions and is able to defend ones opinion. 3)Colloquium during 5th semester is held on the 4th practical class. Colloquium consists of two parts – theoretical and practical part. Students’ theoretical knowledge is evaluated during two open (written) questions about ENT organ clinical anatomy, physiology and investigation methods, and practical skills in ENT organ investigation during individual demonstration of specific manipulations. 4)Clinical case presentation is organised in the 6th semester’s 6th practical class. Each student orally presents independently prepared clinical case of a patient examined during one of the practical classes of the 6th semester. 5)Final examination – computerized MCQ (Multiple Choice Question) test is held at the end of the 6th semester during examination period. During the exam students’ theoretical knowledge about aetiology, pathogenesis, clinical manifestations, diagnostics, treatment principles and prophylaxis of ENT organ diseases is evaluated. Final grade: At the end of each semester and at the end of the whole course, each student receives a mark in a 10-grade scale. 1. Final grade at the end of 5th semester consists of mean mark of the individual evaluations during practical classes and colloquium grade (accordingly 15% and 85%). 2. Final grade at the end of 6th semester consists of mean mark of the individual evaluations during practical classes and clinical case mark (accordingly 15% and 85%). 3. Final grade for the whole course consists of the 5th semester and 6th semester final grade and exam grade (accordingly 25%, 25% and 50%).
Final Examination (Full-Time): | Exam (Written)

Learning Outcomes | |||||||||
Knowledge: | Upon successful completion of the course students will have acquired knowledge and will: • describe clinical anatomy of the nose, sinuses, throat, larynx and the ear, their physiology and the main functions; • describe the structure of the hearing and balance apparatus, its functions and potential deviations; • explain the speech, language and voice production; • identify diseases of the ear, nose and throat; • classify the treatment methods and arrange the treatment plan; • recognise the disease complications; • explain the role of the organ development peculiarities in different age groups.
Skills: | Upon successful completion of the course students: • demonstrate skills and abilities in endoscopic examination of the ENT organs; • are able to interpret results obtained by additional tests: rhinomanometry, hearing tests and radiological investigation; • explain and recommend methods for preventing ear and throat diseases and ear hygiene methods to the patients and/or their parents; • comprehend pharmacological and surgical treatment methods of the ENT organ diseases.
Competencies: | • Are capable to plan their scientific thesis, use the results from the evidence based clinical trials found in literature overviews; • justify own opinion in planning treatment for a ENT disease; • gauge and give prognosis of the disease results; • know risk factors, treatment methods and prognosis affecting factors of the oncological diseases in the ENT organs.
