Preliminary Knowledge:
Psychology, psychiatry, pediatrics, occupational therapy.
Objective:
To gain knowledge about occupational therapy process with clients who have intellectual disabilities.

Group work presentation; clinical case analysis and presentation.
Assessment Criteria:
Group work presentation, participation in case study analysis. Final test – written theoretical test including case analysis.

Learning Outcomes
Knowledge:On successful course completion student is able to recognise and define mental retardation, is able to name and describe the degree of intellectual development delay.
Skills:Student is able to identify and to clarify the occupational therapy tactics in dealing with the target group, is able to apply Gunnar Kylen "Understanding" theory, as well as to use the acquired knowledge in occupational therapy practice.
Competencies:Student is able to formulate and analyse a person's with mental retardation occupational performance difficulties, is able to develop and explain OT intervention plan.
