Study course description
Preliminary Knowledge:
Knowledge and skills acquired to obtain a professional qualification of a physiotherapist and a bachelor's degree in health care.
Objective:
To deepen and expand theoretical knowledge and integrate the latest scientific findings in the comprehension of body and psyche interaction in the context of physiotherapy.
Topic Layout (Full-Time)
No.TopicType of ImplementationNumberVenue
1Anxiety, fear and body: clinical manifestation and body-psyche interaction, its underlying biological mechanisms; recognition and interpretation during the patient's communication and assessment, inclusion in the clinical reasoning; physiotherapy interventions and modifications (pathogenetic justification, methodology, level of evidence).Classes2.00E-Studies platform
2Depression, exhaustion and body: clinical manifestation and body-psyche interaction, its underlying biological mechanisms; recognition and interpretation during the patient's communication and assessment, inclusion in the clinical reasoning; physiotherapy interventions and modifications ((patho)physiology of action mechanisms, methodology, level of evidence).Classes2.00E-Studies platform
3Interaction of cognitive and physical functions: cognitive disorders, their neurobiology and interaction with physical functions; physiotherapy interventions (types, methodology) for the promotion, improvement and maintenance of cognitive functions (level of evidence, (patho)physiology of action.Classes1.00auditorium
4Physiotherapy in patients with mental health disorders (seminar).Classes1.00auditorium
5Communication between physiotherapist and patient: verbal and non-verbal communication; first consultation, purposeful issues from a bio-psycho-social perspective; explanation of bio-psycho-social concept to the patient; providing support (in emotional and cognitive level); the patient as a personality in the process of physiotherapy (individual needs, values, beliefs).Classes2.00auditorium
6Body awareness in the process of physiotherapy: body awareness as a resource, the concept of lived body and embodiment.Classes1.00E-Studies platform
Assessment
Unaided Work:
Systematic search, selection and critical reading of the latest scientific publications. Collection of the latest scientific evidence on particular topic. Solving clinical case problems in small groups. Preparation for the seminar.
Assessment Criteria:
Final assessment is performed as cumulative assessment, which includes assessment of the seminar report (30%) and assessment of the written examination (analysis of a simulated clinical case) (70%). Evaluation criteria (4) for seminar report include following: summary and synthesis of the results of the indicated literature sources; finding and adding additional scientific publications, logically deepening or broadening the analysis of the topic; visual-audial presentation (perceptibility, clarity of the presentation of the topic, binding of the message); creating and leading a discussion involving colleagues (students, lecturers). Each of the criteria is scored on a 10-point scale and gives 25% of the total score. Evaluation criteria for written examination (a simulated clinical case) include following: definition of the patient's functional problem, reflecting the clinical reasoning process (summary); defining goals using the SMART principle; explanation and justification of the applied physiotherapy concept. Each of the criteria is scored on a 10-point scale and gives 33,3% of the total score.

Learning Outcomes
Knowledge:Describes and explains the physiological and patho-physiological nature of the body-psyche interaction, based on evidence from recent research. Describes the conceptual models of physiotherapy that integrate the bio-psycho-social model and the unity of the body-psyche and the latest scientific evidence that allow them to be justified.
Skills:Recognizes and analyzes the influence of mental factors on the results of physical functional assessment, integrates them in the process of evaluation and clinical reasoning in various complex situations in physiotherapy. Identifies and analyzes the interaction of psychosocial factors with activity limitations and patient complaints in various complex situations in physiotherapy. Applies the bio-psycho-social model in the clinical reasoning process in various complicated situations in physiotherapy.
Competencies:Creates and develops the professional competence in physiotherapy by integration comprehension of body-psyche interconnection, the latest evidence and creative, innovative solutions for various target groups.
