Objective:
To acquaint students with the changes taking place in the contemporary society. General trends and trends in certain areas of the society are described: employment, family life, education, etc. The research and statistical data about Latvia, Europe and other countries are used for analysis of these changes.

Learning Outcomes
Knowledge:On successful completion of the course the students will be able to describe the ongoing global changes in contemporary societies; to characterise the main manifestations of these changes in the society in general and in families. Using statistical and research data the students will be able to discuss main trends and challenges of the society of Latvia in terms of social inclusion and social inequality.
Skills:Upon successful completion of the course the students will be able to characterise global and ongoing social processes in Latvia, applying statistical, social research and Eurobarometer data.
Competencies:Upon successful completion of the course the students will be able to apply the acquired knowledge and skills in their research and projects.
