Study course description
Preliminary Knowledge:
Anatomy, normal physiology, pathological physiology, biochemistry, nutrition basics. English language knowledge is mandatory.
Objective:
To provide skills needed for working with scientific databases during the study process and afterwards; Present different study models, explain their pros and cons in a way, that students are able to evaluate published studies themselves; Foster students presentation and debate abilities, which are based on scientific studies.

Unaided Work:
Individual work – analyze scientific papers.
Assessment Criteria:
Part of the course taught by D.Spila: cumulative assessment according to the set % on each of the practical works done in each class. Both assessments are added and final mark given.

Learning Outcomes
Knowledge:After successful study course completion, students will be able to compare different study models that are used in scientific papers, understand their biases; they will know how to search for papers relevant to their criteria for bachelors or masters thesis; they will be competent to talk about latest research tendencies in nutrition science.
Skills:After successfully completing study course, students will acquire the following skills: • Critically assess research; • Correctly interpret scientific data; • Gather and present relevant nutrition papers.
Competencies:After successful completion of the course, the students independently analyze published studies, assessing their strengths and weaknesses, and to use this information in practice – in the further studies, working with clients, the media and public authorities.
