Basics in human biology.

Provide basic knowledge and develop skills in public health and to enhance public health career motivation.

Assessment
Unaided Work:
Literature reading. Individual work on public health history. Submission and presentation of individual work on demography. In order to evaluate the quality of the study course as a whole, the student must fill out the study course evaluation questionnaire on the Student Portal.
Assessment Criteria:
Cumulative assessment that consists of assessment of the independent work completed during the course – 50% and exam grade – 50%. To be able to take the exam, student has to have a positive assessment in all the independent work completed during the study course. To receive a final grade, examination is mandatory. The assessment of independent work in case of an unsuccessfully passed exam does not increase the final assessment grade.

Learning Outcomes
Knowledge:Describe the public health terms; Describe the functions of public health; Explain the fields and core areas of public health; Define the health concept and describe the health determinants; List the basic demographic measures; Identify the indicators for health measurement and locate health information data sources.
Skills:Apply the concepts of public health; Discuss public health issues in the historical context of public health development; Classify the health determinants; Calculate and interpret basic demographic measures; Differentiate and compare the data sources for health information.
Competencies:Explain the public health issues in the historical and demographic context; Independently select and use appropriate health information and data sources.
