Preliminary Knowledge:
The English language knowledge at the secondary school level.
Objective:
To develop English language communicative skills to be applied both in academic and vocational settings, to ensure social work related vocabulary acquisition and practical use.

Assessment
Unaided Work:
Individual and pair work - giving presentations, work with dictionaries, giving definitions to terminology, summary writing, completing the course feedback questionnaire,
Assessment Criteria:
- Active participation in class; qualitative written assignments; qualitative speaking - giving a presentation; in a presentation, students demonstrate their public speaking skills as well as the English language proficiency: prepared monologue (giving an overview of the chosen topic, and expressing their opinions), a dialogue (asking and answering questions). - two tests to evaluate the knowledge of the social and medical terminology as well as its practical usage. - final examination which consists of writing a summary of a research article or presentation. - the final mark is calculated on the basis of the test results(56%), presentation result (28%), and the examination result (16%)

Learning Outcomes
Knowledge:Having successfully acquired the course, students will be able - to recognize professional terminology in various texts - to recall social work related English terminology - to describe social work related phenomena using English terminology
Skills:Having successfully acquired the course, students will be able - to choose and apply terminology for oral and written communication (in giving presentations, in discussions, in writing texts) - to use appropriate language structures in oral and written communication - to make summaries both orally and in a written mode with appropriate use of terminology - to render the contents of texts and to find certain information in various information sources
Competencies:Having successfully acquired the course, students will be able to apply social work related terminology in various communicative situations.
