The RSU Debates and Conversations Group (The D&C Group) is intended as a platform for structured debates, open-ended and open-minded conversations for students.

Our primary goal is to enhance and broaden our intellect and individual knowledge about current topics. We don't shy away from controversial topics and by sharing and and being open we hope to change our stereotypes and learn to listen. In this group, students train their communication and social skills through well-structured and respectful arguments.
What you will gain by getting involved in our activities:
- improved listening skills,
- improved critical thinking,
- personality development.
Events
The structure of our events is to hold one discussion and one debate on the same topic each month. Past topics include:
- Covid,
- Vaccination (with guest speaker Prof. Aigars Reinis, RSU Department of Biology & Microbiology),
- Veganism,
- Obesity and beauty standards,
- The legalisation of marijuana (with guest speaker Herbologist Ilva Minaveja),
- Legistlation affecting the LGBTQ community,
- The war on drugs (with guest speaker Professor Dmitrijs Kustovs, RSU Department of Pharmacology),
- Fashion Revolution discussion during RSU Integration Month (a collaboration with RSU SP and ISA with guest speaker Santa Cera).
