Assessment
Unaided Work:
Preparation of first aid presentations using the recommended literature and Internet sources, followed by evaluation and analysis in practical classes.
Assessment Criteria:
Criteria for assessing resuscitation using manikins: (1) sequence of steps and algorithm for cardiopulmonary resuscitation – must be known and executed accurately without any errors; (2) Victim Initial Investigation (ABC) – must be known and executed accurately without any errors; (3) correct location of the heart indirect massage point and the depth of the massage – must be known and executed accurately without any errors; (4) manual opening of the airways and artificial lung ventilation – must be known exactly and at least 70% of the cases should be able to reach the correct inhalation volume; (5) practical implementation of a stable lateral position – must be known and executed accurately without any errors; (6) performance of the Heimlich manoeuvre and other techniques in case of choking – must be known and executed accurately without any errors. Assessment criteria for First Aid theoretical multiple choice question (MCQ) test: over 75% correct answers. MCQ test in Civil Defence.

Learning Outcomes
Knowledge:Knowledge of providing first aid in emergency situations as well as calling for assistance. Upon completion of the study course students will be able to perform the sequence of steps in examining the patient (victim) at the pre-hospital stage, will gain knowledge of how to stop bleeding and apply first aid measures for shock. They will learn basic principles for immobilization in cases of bone fractures and dislocations, for assistance in the event of burns, overheating, hypothermia and acute poisoning. Knowledge of the structure, legal framework, organisation and management of the civil protection system; knowledge of the tasks, rights and duties of the government, local government, legal entities and natural persons in the field of civil protection; knowledge of hazardous objects, threat assessment, obligations and rights of owners or legal possessors; knowledge of the civil protection commissions of local governments; knowledge of civil protection planning; knowledge of hazardous substances, their classification and requirements for their storage and transportation; knowledge of requesting and provision of international assistance; on personal protective equipment in the event of a disaster; knowledge of specific legal regimes and behaviour on specific sites.
Skills:Students will be able to give emergency resuscitation, including basic cardiopulmonary resuscitation algorithm, to detect clinical and biological signs of death, to give first aid in case of foreign body aspiration, to apply manual methods of artificial respiration and use oropharyngeal and nasopharyngeal airway, to diagnose and stop external bleeding, as well as to demonstrate the ability to work according to the principles of teamwork within the scope of the own competence. Upon completion of the study course, students will know how to identify various hazards and how to deal with different emergencies.
Competencies:Provision of first aid, primary and secondary examination of the patient (victim) at the pre-hospital stage, situation analysis using the basic resuscitation algorithm and other first aid guidelines. Competence in civil protection matters.
