Preliminary Knowledge: | Knowledge and skills acquired in the study programme Physician’s Assistant. | ||||||||
Objective: | To strengthen the knowledge and practical skills acquired in the study course, which are based on the professional knowledge, skills and competences defined in the professional standard of a physician’s assistant for the performance of tasks described in the work of a physician’s assistant. | ||||||||

Unaided Work: | 1. During the placement, the student is guided by the RSU Liepāja Branch Placement Regulation, Qualification Placement Programme in order to implement the goals and tasks set for the placement, as well as by the internal regulations of the relevant structural unit. 2. During the placement, the student completes a Placement Logbook in compliance with the conditions (see the Placement Programme). 3. The student works at least 40 academic hours per week (1 academic hour = 45 min). The assignments and duration of the placement depend on the curriculum. 4. At the end of the placement, the student submits the Placement Logbook within 3 days after the end of the placement (or earlier if requested) to the head of the study programme and completes the placement evaluation questionnaire. | ||||||||
Assessment Criteria: | 1. The student’s performance in each part of the placement is assessed by the placement supervisor. 2. Within three days after the placement (or sooner if requested), the student submits to the head of the study programme a properly drawn up Placement Logbook (see Section VII), discussions and evaluation take place. 3. The head of the study programme of the RSU Liepāja Branch, based on the submitted documents, decides on the student’s admission to the defence of the Qualification Placement. 4. The student is admitted to defend the Qualifying Placement if: a) they have worked 100% of the hours of the placement prescribed in the study programme; b) they submit a correctly drawn up Placement Logbook on time; c) they have obtained a positive assessment at each placement, i.e. not less than 9 points, equivalent to the grade of 4 points. 5. The form of final assessment of the qualification placement is a test, the procedure of which has been approved at the RSU Liepāja Branch Council meeting (28.04.2016, Minutes No. 1). The test takes place at the placement site – medical care establishment – with the student developing a medical history of a random patient in 2 hours and orally defending it to the committee. 6. If any of the above conditions are not met, the placement is failed and the student is not allowed to take the National Degree examinations and is further guided by paragraphs 5.13–5.16.3 of the Academic Regulations I. | ||||||||

Learning Outcomes | |||||||||
Knowledge: | The knowledge acquired in the study programme Physician’s Assistant in the diagnosis, treatment and prevention of diseases, emergency care of the injured, as well as work organisation and teamwork in accordance with the professional standard is strengthened. | ||||||||
Skills: | Will develop the professional skills of a physician’s assistant to perform the tasks described in the professional standard. | ||||||||
Competencies: | Will be able to apply the professional skills defined in the professional standard of a Physician’s Assistant in the performance of tasks of a physician’s assistant, evaluate results and make decisions. | ||||||||
