Preliminary Knowledge:
Basic background in history and science.
Objective:
To demonstrate to students that medical history is a research discipline, the knowledge of which can significantly broaden the understanding of medical theories, practices and ethical guidelines in our days.

Assessment
Unaided Work:
Argumented report in medical history.
Assessment Criteria:
Attendance of lectures (10%), attendance of classes and active participation (40%), test with multiple choice questions (30%), final test (20%).

Learning Outcomes
Knowledge:As a result of the study course students will name and describe the stages of development of medical history, describe the interrelations of society, different branches of science and medical development, will list the chronology of major medical science discoveries, and will announce facts about medical discoveries and their meaning.
Skills:As a result of the study course students will be able to study and evaluate historical sources, gather facts about discoveries, events, processes in medical development, systematise them and make theoretical generalisations. Students will have the ability to critically assess the importance of discoveries in medicine, society development and disease prevention.
Competencies:Based on the knowledge and facts gained, students will be able to argue the importance of medical discoveries in improving the quality of life.
