Preliminary Knowledge:
Basics of Diagnostic Radiology.
Objective:
Interventional Radiology is a quickly emerging, highly technological subspecialty of Radiology, offering the patient friendly and less invasive operations in broad spectrum of pathologies. Interventional Radiology covers vascular and also non-vascular pathology treatment, including oncological interventions under guidance of different visualization methods (X-ray, ultrasound, CT-guided procedures). The aim of this course is to give more detailed introduction to Interventional Radiology field. During the 8 lessons, which include 10 topics, theoretical and practical lessons will cover the most common clinical conditions routinely handled by interventional radiologists. In every lesson following key points according to CIRSE (Cardiovascular and Interventional Radiology Society of Europe) Interventional Radiology Curriculum for Medical Students will be discussed: • indications of the procedure, main guidelines; • preoperative preparation; • basic steps of the procedure; • material spectrum; • post-procedural care. During every lesson students will spend 2 hours for acquaintance with theoretical aspects of the topic and 2 hours in cathlab for acquaintance with real radiological work-stations, operation material spectrum and in-vitro simulated manipulation technique with real devices.

Assessment
Unaided Work:
Studies of the guidelines highlighted during practical lessons, literature review. Clinical case analysis (self-selected from online sources) and step-by step description of Interventional Radiology operation applied has to be handed in during the course (2 A4 pages).
Assessment Criteria:
Cumulative mark of 8 tests completed on-site after every practical lesson provides final mark of the course; Course can be completed if at least 6 tests fulfilled and clinical case analysis submitted.

Learning Outcomes
Knowledge:During the course students will be trained according to Interventional Radiology guidelines and Syllabus. Basic steps of main procedures will be shown schematically and in practical application. During clinical case-based analysis indications and contraindications of specific Interventional Radiology procedures will be discussed. Preoperative diagnostic and laboratory analysis steps will be discussed for every operation type.
Skills:At the end of the course students will acquire practical skills to perform basic steps of specific IR procedures (see skill section of the course). Students also will be capable to decide which type of IR procedure is applicable in specific clinical situation.
Competencies:At the end of the course students will be capable to recognize the indications for basic endovascular and non-vascular operations as well as limitations, thus increasing knowledge in treatment possibilities and participate in a multidisciplinary approach to patient care in the future.
