Preliminary Knowledge: | Introduction to professional studies and research, biology, physiology, civil and environmental protection. | ||||||||
Objective: | To gain knowledge and understanding of public and environmental health aspects and their impact on individual and public health in the context of the practice of a functional specialist. | ||||||||

Unaided Work: | Learning tasks: 1) Individual task: a) Global environmental health problems in Latvia and the world - choose a global problem from examples and analyze the main environmental health problems, collect solutions at the individual, municipal and national level, provide proposals for solutions; b) Assessment of the workplace or type of work and determination of the factors of the working environment and their assessment - completed assessment form, report on the assessment results; 2) in a group (2-3 students) - promotion of public health in the municipality - research and analysis of the public health profile in the municipality, identification and analysis of health promotion measures in the municipality, report and discussion. | ||||||||
Assessment Criteria: | At the end of the study course, a cumulative exam on the learning tasks implemented in the study course: 1) individually: a) global environmental health problems in Latvia and the world (individual task); b) assessment of work environment risk factors (individual task) - 50%; 2) group task - promotion of public health in the municipality - 50%. | ||||||||

Learning Outcomes | |||||||||
Knowledge: | As a result of successful completion of the course the student will be able to: - to understand and explain the impact of environmental factors on human health and the possibilities for reducing pollution; - to understand and explain the possibilities of reducing the risk factors of the work environment; - understand and explain the frequency of diseases (incidence, prevalence); - to understand and explain the factors influencing health and health habits of the Latvian population. | ||||||||
Skills: | As a result of successful completion of the course the student will be able to: - identify the most common environmental factors that can cause environmental diseases; - identify work environment risk factors that may affect the health of employees and patients; - to select, compile and use the most important information on public health and health habits of the population in Latvia; - apply disease incidence estimates. | ||||||||
Competencies: | As a result of successful completion of the course the student will be able to: - to participate in measures to reduce the impact of natural and work environment factors at their workplace; - to analyze and interpret the public health situation and health habits of the Latvian population; - interpret data from disease frequency estimates. | ||||||||
