Preliminary Knowledge:

Objective:
Ensure that having completed the course, students are able to use Russian for communication in daily life and work-related situations in accordance with the description of skills corresponding to levels A1/A2 of the “Common European Framework of Reference for Languages: Learning, Teaching, Assessment”. Communicate in Russian using different kinds of language activities (listening, reading, speaking and writing). Tasks: 1. Acquire basic professional terminology in the field of police in Russian. 2. Improve the speaking, reading and writing skills in Russian and extend the knowledge of grammar in order to be able to use it in their professional activities and contacts with their colleagues in the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS).

Assessment
Unaided Work:
Home assignments with specific tasks for learning active vocabulary and grammar; preparation of presentations. Students are obliged to fill in the course evaluation questionnaire at the end of the course.
Assessment Criteria:
Regular attendance of the classes is compulsory; individual work and presentation are compulsory (10%); average evaluation of tests (40%); examination grade (50%).

Learning Outcomes
Knowledge:On successful completion of the course the students will know: • Standard vocabulary in the Russian language, simple declarative sentences and questions; • Phrases needed to start and carry on a conversation and to give information; • The main language structures of the Russian language, formation and use of the present, past and future forms; • Police-related comprehensive vocabulary.
Skills:On successful completion of the course the students will be able to: • understand simple texts on well-known everyday topics, letters, advertisements in the media and other authentic material; • use the acquired language structures in their everyday communication; • use general terminology, carry out practical tasks related to the communication between police officers and their colleagues and clients within the scope of their competence.
Competencies:On completion of the study course the student will be able to: • provide brief information about themselves, their relatives, living conditions and studies; • create short reports, write down simple information; • deliver a monologue and engage in a dialogue on various topics related to their social life and studies; • describe practical problems of police work; • select and use the information on police work for communication in Russian.
