Study course description
Preliminary Knowledge:
Knowledge and skills acquired during the studies.
Objective:
Within the framework of the development of the Master's thesis, the student acquires the ability to work independently with legal literature, legal norms, practice of courts and other institutions, develops the skills of scientific research work and strengthens the ability to present and discuss a particular topic and defend its conclusions and proposals. The principle objective is to strengthen the theoretical and practical knowledge according to the requirements of the specialty of law.
Assessment
Unaided Work:
According to requirements of the final thesis of the Rīga Stradiņš University.
Assessment Criteria:
Master thesis has been successfully defended at the meeting of the State Examination Commission, taking into account the procedures and rules included in the legal acts of the Faculty of Law, the criteria for its evaluation. Successful evaluation of the Master thesis is rated from 4 – 10 points.

Learning Outcomes
Knowledge:• Knowledge of scientific research methods and their application possibilities is strengthened. • To identity legal problems in the chosen field and to find a reasonable solution. • To deepen understanding on topicalities of law and apprenticeship in the chosen field.
Skills:• To use and analyse different types of sources (including data bases). • To gradually analyse theoretical and practical insights, argue own opinion. • To present own research, justify its significance, relevance and applicability.
Competencies:Student can independently formulate and critically analyse the theoretical and practical problems of legal nature related to the development of Master's thesis. Demonstrates the ability to justify own conclusions and make concrete suggestions for solving identified problems and improving the legal framework.
