The third project in the Age is not an Obstacle series, funded by the Nordic Council of Ministers' education and research mobility programme NordPlus, is being implemented by SIA Remilia in cooperation with Rīga Stradiņš University (RSU), the Estonian Pensioners’ Union, and the Lithuanian Union of Pensioners Bočiai. The project aims to improve Baltic seniors’ quality of life by upgrading their knowledge and skills.

In the third stage, the project team has developed various self-learning materials in text and video format that seniors can use to improve their digital skills and acquire 24 free Microsoft and Google apps in Latvian. The learning process is gradual, starting with the most important apps for each participant.

The training materials in Latvian are posted on the project’s website www.vecumsnavskerslis.lv in the Training Materials section and are available free of charge upon registration. Online consultations will take place in April this year, where participants will be able to clear up anything they don’t understand and get answers to a wide range of questions. Information on the timing of the consultations will be available on the project website.

Since the beginning of the project in 2017, its implementers have developed various training programmes that give seniors the opportunity to acquire new skills and upgrade existing ones in a wide range of topics: digital technologies, various social activities, basic legal skills, methods and exercises to improve their health and memory, as well as other knowledge and activities seniors need. The programmes were held both remotely and in person in different cities and regions of Latvia. More than 50 experts in various fields have completed the training process and received certificates. They have already demonstrated their expertise in municipalities where they have trained people of pre-retirement and early retirement age.

‘The experience from the project so far shows that we have hit the mark. Seniors are very interested in new knowledge and skills. We had to be creative to provide such an opportunity for all those willing to learn. Therefore, in this third project we invite potential participants not to wait, but be active and take the opportunity to acquire modern digital opportunities free of charge,’ says Dagnija Staķe, project coordinator and lecturer at RSU.
