World Hepatitis Day is observed each year on July 28 to raise awareness of viral hepatitis, an inflammation of the liver that causes severe liver disease and hepatocellular cancer. This year's theme is 'Hepatitis Can’t Wait’, indicating the urgency of action to tackle hepatitis as a public health threat by 2030. Every 30 seconds, a person dies from a hepatitis-related illness. Even in the current COVID-19 crisis, one cannot wait to act on viral hepatitis.

To mark the day, WHO is hosting a Global talk show providing a platform for global, regional and national leaders, policy makers, communities and other stakeholders to discuss opportunities for accelerating the hepatitis response to achieve elimination by 2030.

A hepatitis-free future is achievable with a united effort. WHO is calling on all countries to work together to eliminate viral hepatitis as a public health threat by 2030.
